There are artworks displayed on the walls behind them. Emily: Hello I'm Emily. Debbie: And I'm Debbie. Emily: And we are from the Logan City Council Libraries’ First 5 Forever team. And today we get to share a story with you. But before we share our story we're going to do our Acknowledgement of Country. Description: Debbie and Emily place both hands out to the side at waist height, palms facing up. Emily : So at home you can use your arms and do the actions along with us. And if you know the words, you can say the words along with us as well. Emily: Are you ready? Here we go Description: Emily has hands out to the side at waist height, palms facing up. Emily and Debbie: Here is the land Description: Debbie and Emily both move their hands in a flat circular motion. Emily and Debbie: and here is the sky Description: Debbie and Emily arch their hands above their heads and move them down to their side. Emily and Debbie: here are my friends Description: Debbie moves her hands, palm up from their inside elbow out. Emily and Debbie: And here am I. Description: Debbie and Emily tap both their hands on their chest. Emily: Perfect, alright. So the story that we have chosen to read today is this one. It is called 'Snap Went Chester' Description: Debbie and Emily place their hands in their lap. Debbie looks over to Emily. Emily pick up the book from the table. Emily: And it's all about a crocodile. Description: The cover of the book is white and shows a brown crocodile with the title in green. Emily points to the crocodile. Emily: This story is written by Tania Cox and David Miller and this is how it goes. Description: Emily points to the authors and illustrators name then turns the page. Emily: One afternoon when Chester was wondering what to do, Description: Books shows a picture of a brown, scaly crocodile, lying on brown mud and rocks with a fly overhead. Emily: A fly kept buzzing around his ear. Description: Emily is holding the book while Debbie looks on. Emily: Here's the little fly and he is buzzing around Chester's ear. Description: Emily points to the fly in the book and uses a circling motion around the crocodile’s ear. Emily turns the page. Emily: SNAP! Went Chester Description: Picture of a very big fly with big green eyes, yellow wings and the word ‘snap’ in green. Debbie uses her arms in a up down motion bringing the palms together to snap. Emily uses one hand to slap her knee. Emily: Great job Deb Emily: If you're at home, you can use your arms to do a big snap action just like a crocodile. Description: Debbie and Emily use their arms in a up down motion bringing the palms together to snap. Emily: Are you ready? SNAP! Great job Snap went Chester and the fly zoomed away. Emily: Chester smiled he had just thought of something to do! Description: Debbie looks at Emily and Emily smiles. Emily turns the page. Emily turn the page. Emily: And SNAP! went Chester. The frog jumped high into the sky and Chester laughed. This was fun. Description: Debbie has her hands in her lap, she looks at Emily. Emily is holding the book. Debbie moves her hands to her chest with the palms together and then claps her hands together in an up and down motion. The frog jumps there is the crocodile’s jaw at the side and the word ‘snap’ is in green. Emily turn the page. Emily: Then Chester saw a duck asleep on the riverbank. Description: Close up of a duck with a green head, golden wings and a red chest. The duck is sleeping on the ground in front of green reeds. There is a blue pond with other ducks flying above. Emily: What do you think Chester's going to do? Shhhhhh. Description: Emily points to the duck and looks at Debbie. Debbie uses her hands in a snapping motion. Emily turns the page. Emily: SNAP! Went Chester. Off flies the ducks. Description: Emily shrugs her shoulders and points to the duck. Debbie uses her hands and snaps them together. The word ‘snap’ is in green. Emily: With his big long legs? Maybe? Description: Emily traces the bird’s legs while Debbie looks on with her hands in her lap. Emily turns the page. Emily: SNAP! Went Chester to the monkey. Description: Debbie uses her hands and claps her palms together. Emily and Debbie are looking at the book. Debbie: Can you make a monkey sound? Description: Debbie balls her fists and places them under her armpits with elbows out to the side. She moves her elbows up and down while smiling. Emily and Debbie: *Monkey sounds* Description: Debbie continues to move her elbows up and down while smiling. Emily balls one fist and places it under her armpit with elbows out and moves her elbows up and down. Description: Debbie claps her hands together. Emily and Debbie look towards the book. Emily: Look at this big pelican with his big snapping beak! Description: Emily points to the pelican’s feet, then to the pelican’s beak. The pelican is white with yellow feet and a yellow beak. The pelican’s beak is open with the work ‘snap’ in red. Emily: He snapped back at Chester. Description: Debbie and Emily look towards the book and Emily turns the page. Emily: Home went Chester as fast as he could, Description: Picture of tall reeds with green and blue water. The crocodile is swimming in the water. Emily turns the page. Emily: Where he didn't, Description: Picture has the head brown scaly crocodile with a large yellow eye and sharp pointy teeth. There is a very little crocodile sitting on the large crocodile’s head. Emily: Snap anything for the rest of the day. Description: Debbie and Emily are looking at the book. Emily: Look how small Chester is on the big grown-up Crocodile. Description: Emily’s finger points to the little crocodile Emily: Oh my goodness look at these teeth. Emily: And that is the end of our crocodile story. Do you know a song about a crocodile? Description: Debbie looks at Emily who is pointing out the large white teeth of the big crocodile. Emily places the book back on the table. Emily: What do you think Deb what could we sing? Description: Emily looks towards where Debbie is sitting and places her hands on her lap. Debbie: I think we could go rowing in our boat. What do you think Emily? Description: Emily and Debbie nod. They make fists and bring them to their chest. Emily: Yeah, so if you have two big strong rowing arms, Description: Emily holds her elbows out and her fists at shoulder height showing her biceps. Emily pushes her fists to the front with her elbows to the side and them pulls then back to her chest. Emily: We can row forwards and backwards and sing our song. Are you ready? Here we go! Description: Emily and Debbie push their fists to the front with their elbows to the side and then pulls them back to their chest, they continue this action, backwards and forwards. Emily picks up the plush green crocodile from the table which is a hand puppet. She places it on her hand and opening and closing the puppets mouth shaking it as well. Debbie shakes both hands in the air near her chest. Emily and Debbie: Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily Life is but a dream Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream If you see a crocodile don't forget to scream Ahhhh! Emily: Snap, snap, snap goes Mr Crocodile! Shall we do it one last time? Description: Emily opens and shuts the puppets mouth, then removes the puppet from her hand. Debbie is smiling looking over at the crocodile. Debbie: I think so. Emily: Ok! Are you ready? Emily and Debbie: Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily Life is but a dream Row, row, row your boat gently down the stream If you see a crocodile Don't forget to scream! Description: Emily places the puppet in her lap and Emily and Debbie push their fists to the front with their elbows to the side and then pulls them back to their chest, they continue this action, backwards and forwards. Debbie continues the action and Emily places the puppet on her hand. Emily and Debbie: Ahhh! Snap, snap, snap, snap! Description: Emily opens and shuts the mouth of the crocodile puppet, she is smiling looking at the crocodile. Emily places the puppet on her lap, and Debbie looks over smiling. Emily stretches her arm out in front of and claps her palms together in an up and down motion, snapping like the crocodile. Emily shrugs and puts her hands out to the side with bent elbows. Debbie and Emily place their hand in their laps. Emily: Very good! Did you use your big snapping arms at home? Ok! Well that's the end of our story time today, so until next time, goodbye!
