They have a table between them and on the table is a book ‘Shark in the Park’ and two green, fluffy frogs. They are sitting in a library with boxes of picture books behind them. There are artworks displayed on the walls behind them. Emily: Hello I'm Emily. Debbie: And I'm Debbie. Emily: And we are from the Logan City Council Libraries’ First 5 Forever team and we are going to share a story with you today. Description: Debbie and Emily are smiling with their hands in their laps. Emily: So the story we have chosen to share is 'Shark in the Park' by Nick Sharratt. Description: Emily picks up the book showing the front cover. The cover is green and red swirls with a picture of a shark fin in the middle. The words for the title are white. Emily looks at Debbie and places the book back on the table. Emily: But before we read our story, we're actually going to do our Acknowledgement to Country. So if you at home can use your arms to do the actions with us. Description: Emily and Debbie place their hands flat to the side at waist height. Emily is smiling. Emily: We can do it together. Are you ready? It goes like this. Emily and Debbie: Here is the land Description: Debbie and Emily both move their hands in a flat circular motion. Emily and Debbie: and here is the sky Description: Debbie arches her hand above her head and move them down to her side. Emily and Debbie: here are my friends Description: Debbie moves her hands, palm up from their inside elbow out. Emily and Debbie: and here am I. Description: Debbie and Emily tap both their hands on their chest. Emily: Excellent so now we're going to share our story. Have you read this story before Deb? Description: Emily is smiling and Debbie is looking at Emily. Emily pick up the book off the table, showing the front cover. Debbie: I haven't Emily. Description: Debbie shakes her head. Emily: Well 'Shark in the Park' is one of my favourite stories and because it's a favourite, I read it again and again all the time because repetition is how we and our children learn. So in this story there is a telescope that our main character uses so at home you can use your hands to make a telescope to look through like this. Description: Emily and Debbie and looking at each other and smiling. Emily places the book on her lap. Emily moves the book to the side while Debbie watches on. Emily places the book onto the table and both Emily and Debbie bend their fingers and thumb together to make a tube shape with each hand, then place one hand on top of the other. They bring their hands to one eye and look through the tube. Emily turns to face Debbie. Emily: Or you could get a piece of paper and make a telescope yourself. I have made you a telescope Deb, here it is. Description: Emily and Debbie place their hands in their lap. Emily reaches behind her back and gives Debbie a yellow rolled up piece of paper. Debbie: And if you have some stickers at home, you can decorate your telescope as well. Description: Debbie holds the rolled piece of paper and shows the stickers that have been added to it. Debbie puts the roller paper to her eye, holding it with both hands. Emily: Excellent! So now we have our telescopes, we're ready to see what happens in 'Shark in the Park.' Description: Emily picks up the book to the front cover. The cover is green and red swirls with a picture of a shark fin in the middle. The words for the title are white. Emily turns the page. Emily: Here we go. 'Shark in the Park'. Description: Title of the book, ‘Shark’ is in red, ‘in the’ is in blue and ‘park’ is in green. Emily turns the page. Emily: Down at the park a little boy is testing out his brand new toy. There's Timothy Pope with his blue telescope. Description: Emily points to the boy with the telescope. Debbie puts the rolled piece of paper to her eye. Emily turns the page. Emily: Timothy Pope, Timothy Pope is looking through his telescope. There is green grass a picket fence, a blue sky and a small round flower bed with yellow flowers. There of four pictures of the boy looking up, down, left and right. Emily: He looks at the sky, he looks at the ground, he looks left, he looks right, Description: Debbie put the rolled paper to her eye and looks up, then down to the left then to the right. Emily watches. Emily: He looks all around. Good job Deb! Description: Debbie still has the paper to her eye and looking in a circular motion. Debbie is smiling looking towards Emily. Emily: And this is what he sees. “Oh! What a nasty surprise!” in his loudest voice Timothy cries. Now you at home can do this too, after three we will shout together ‘there's a shark in the park.’ You ready? One, two, three. Emily and Debbie: There's a shark in the park! Description: Emily is pointing to the picture in the book. It a circle with a shark fin the middle. Debbie watches Emily. Emily point to the front. Emily raises one finger at a time until she gets to three. Emily and Debbie put one hand up cupping near the side of the mouth to make a shouting motion. Emily turns the page. Emily: Good job! A shark, fancy that! Description: The book shows a large black cat with pointy ears, green grass, blue sky, a girl roller skating, a lady with a baby in a blue pram, a boy with a blue telescope, a red plane and a small round garden with yellow flowers. Emily: But it's only a cat. Meow, meow. Description: Emily and Debbie smile, look at each other and make a cat sound. Emily: Do you see how the ear of the cat does look like the fin of the shark but it's not! Phew! Next page. Description: Emily overs the picture of the cat so that just the ear is showing. Emily and Debbie shake their heads from side to side. Emily wipes her brow. Emily turns the page. Timothy yells with all his might. Are you ready? Emily and Debbie: There's a shark in the park! Description: Emily and Debbie put one hand up cupping near the side of the mouth to make a shouting motion. Emily turns the page. Emily: A shark! A child is flying a red kite, a lady and a child walking up a hill near a boy on a skateboard and the boy with a telescope. Emily: Oh no! But it's just a crow. Description: Emily points to the crow. Emily: Caw caw, caw caw. Can you make a crow noise? Caw caw, caw caw. Good job! Description: Emily and Debbie looking at each other open their mouths wide to made a ‘caw’ noise. Emily: Do you see how the wing of the crow does look a little bit like the fin of a shark? Description: Emily covers the picture of the crow, just leaving it’s wing tip showing. Emily: But it's not, phew! Description: Emily and Debbie shake their heads from side to side. Emily wipes her brow in relief. Emily turns the page. Emily: He looks left, he looks right, he looks all around and this is what he sees. Tim's not in any doubt, what do you think he's about to shout? Emily and Debbie: There's a shark in the park! Description: Debbie looks through the paper left then right and then moves it in a circular motion. Emily watches Debbie smiling. Debbie places the paper in her lap. Emily points to the picture of fin inside a circle. Emily and Debbie put one hand up cupping near the side of the mouth to make a shouting motion. Emily shakes her head while Debbie looks on. Emily turns the page. Emily: A shark? No it's not and aren't you glad, as a matter of fact, it's Timothy's dad. Description: Book shows green grass with a path and small statue under blue sky. There is three children playing with a ball, a pond with ducks and a man with black hair that up and over at the front. Emily: Do you see how Timothy's dads hair looks a bit like a fin of a shark? But Deb look, what do you see in the pond? Description: Emily shakes her head. Emily wipes her hand across her head and Debbie smiles watching on. Debbie look towards the book pointing. Debbie: Do you think that’s a shark? Description: Debbie points to the fin in the pond. Emily: Could it be? Quick, close the book! Description: Debbie shrugs her shoulders and Emily quickly closes the book. Emily: Great job and that is the end of our story today but before we go. I think we should sing one of our favourite songs. What do you think Deb? Description: Debbie places the rolled paper on the ground near her feet and Emily places the book in her lap. Emily places the book on the table and Emily and Debbie have their hands in their laps. Debbie: I think we should. Emily: What would you like to sing? Debbie: I think we should sing about our little green friends here sitting on the table. Description: Debbie and Emily nod. Debbie touches the green toy frog on the table with her fingertips and then Emily does the same to the other frog. Emily: Excellent! Debbie: It's the little green frogs. Description: Debbie and Emily pick up the frogs these show to be hand puppets and place them on a hand each in front of them. Emily: Yeah I agree so. If you don't have a little green frog at home, you can use your hands and you can say ‘Galumph’ as we sing 'Galumph went the little green frog.' Are you ready? Here we go. Description: Debbie and Emily use their other hand to make an open and shut movement. Emily and Debbie: Galumph went the little green frog one day, Description: Debbie and Emily open and shut the puppets mouth. Emily opens and shuts her other hand. Emily and Debbie: Galumph went the little green frog, Description: Focus on frog with a wide open mouth Emily is smiling. Emily and Debbie: Galumph went the little green frog one day, and the frog went galumph, galumph, galumph. but we all know frogs go, ladedadeda ladedadeda ladedadeda, we all know frogs go ladedadeda, they don't go galumph, galumph, galumph. Description: Emily and Debbie opening and shutting both hands, one hand is holding a green frog puppet the other is free. Debbie and Emily clap and sway their hands from side to side.
