They are sitting in a library with boxes of picture books behind them. There are artworks displayed on the walls behind them. Sarah: Hi, my name's Sarah and this is Robyn. And we're from First 5 Forever. We're going to share with you a book today. Description: The focus is brought to Sarah. Sarah: Let's start off with our Acknowledgement of Country. Description: Sarah and Robyn are both shown and begin doing the actions for the Acknowledgement of Country. Sarah and Robyn: Here is the land Description: Sarah and Robyn both move their hands in a flat circular motion. Sarah and Robyn: Here is the sky Description: Sarah and Robyn arch their hands above their head and move them down to their sides. Sarah and Robyn: here are my friends Description: Sarah and Robyn move their right hand, palm up from their inside elbow out. Sarah and Robyn: and here am I. Description: Sarah and Robyn tap both their hands on their chest. Sarah: Our book today is called 'Hattie and the Fox' and it's written by Mem Fox and Patricia Mullins. Description: Robyn picks up the book and holds the book out for viewers to see. Sarah: We love this book because it teaches us different names of our body parts. So, if you know the words, it's got lots of repeated ones in it. Please join along with us. Robyn: Ok, are you ready? Description: Robyn, holding the books in her hands, traces under the title as she is reading the words. Robyn: 'Hattie and the Fox' Description: Robyn opens the page to begin reading the book. On one side there is an illustration of a green bush, with a red nose popping out. Looking in the opposite direction is a big black hen with a yellow beak. Robyn: Hattie was a big black hen and one morning she looked up and said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose in the bushes." Description: Robyn turns the page to reveal illustrations of a grey goose facing the ground and big pink pig looking chuff. Robyn: "Good grief," said the goose. "Well, well," said the pig. Description: Robyn turns the page to show a white sheep turned to face its tail, a big brown horse looking indifferent and a red cow turned in another direction, perhaps looking at Hattie. Robyn: "Who cares?” said the sheep. "So what?" said the horse. Sarah and Robyn: "What next?" said the cow. Description: Robyn turns the page to reveal the original scene with the green bushes, this time however there is two yellow eyes and a nose peering through the bushes. The hen is now facing the bush looking intent at the figure revealing itself. Robyn: And Hattie said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose and two eyes in the bushes." Description: Sarah points to her nose and eyes whilst Robyn is reading. Robyn turns the page and shows a scene on green hill with a fence. The pig is lying down in the mud, the sheep is close to the fence, the cow is on the hill looking down at the sheep, whilst the horse and the goose look at each other. Robyn: "Good grief," said the goose. "Well, well," said the pig. "Who cares?” said the sheep. "So what?" said the horse. Sarah and Robyn: "What next?" said the cow. Description: Robyn turns the page and shows the green bush with now two ears emerging behind Hattie. On the right hand corner a nest with an egg can be seen. Hattie is turned away from the figure in the bush. Robyn: And Hattie said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose, two eyes and two ears in the bushes." Description: Sarah points to her nose, eyes and holds both hands up in the air beside her head like ears, whilst Robyn is reading. Robyn turns the page which shows a green field with a body of water. The goose, pig, sheep and cow are lying on the field whilst the horse is at the top of the hill bucking his feet. Robyn: "Good grief," said the goose. "Well, well," said the pig. "Who cares?” said the sheep. "So what?" said the horse. Sarah and Robyn: "What next?" said the cow. Description: Robyn turns the page, showing Hattie with her wings outstretched looking curious. In the background shows a figure emerging from the bush, with two legs now visible. Robyn: And Hattie said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose, two eyes, two ears and two legs in the bushes." Robyn turns the page which shows the goose, pig, sheep, horse and cow close together shaking off mud. Robyn: "Good grief," said the goose. "Well, well," said the pig. "Who cares?” said the sheep. "So what?" said the horse. Sarah and Robyn: "What next?" said the cow. Description: Robyn turns the page, showing Hattie with her wings and leg outstretched looking panicked. In the background shows a figure emerging from the bush, with an orange body now visible. Robyn: And Hattie said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose, two eyes, two ears, two legs and a body in the bushes." Robyn turns the page which shows the heads of the goose, pig, sheep, horse and cow looking amused. Robyn: "Good grief," said the goose. "Well, well," said the pig. "Who cares?” said the sheep. "So what?" said the horse. Sarah and Robyn: "What next?" said the cow. Description: Robyn turns the page, showing Hattie with her wings and legs flying away from her spot and the fox is jumping after the hen. Robyn: And Hattie said "Goodness gracious me! I can see a nose, two eyes, two ears, a body, four legs and a tail in the bushes. It's a fox, it's a fox!" and she flew very quickly into a nearby tree. Description: Sarah points to her nose, eyes, holds both hands up in the air beside her head like ears, her body and legs whilst Robyn is reading. Robyn and Sarah hold their hands up in exclamation at the discovery. Robyn turns the page and shows the animals shocked. The sheep is on the pig jumping, the goose has its wings outstretched flying and the horse has an open mouth and is bucking. Robyn: "Oh no!" said the goose. "Dear me!" said the pig. "Oh dear!" said the sheep. "Oh help!" said the horse. Description: Robyn turns the page. The cow’s face is concentrating with curved words coming out of its mouth. The fox’s tail and hind legs are moving away from the cow. Robyn traces the words on the page as she reads. Robyn: But the cow said Sarah and Robyn: "MOO!" Robyn: So loudly that the fox was frightened and ran away. Description: Sarah pretends to run like the fox. Robyn turns the page. The goose, pig, sheep, horse are all standing up near a tree, shocked. Hettie is in the branches of the tree looking down at the cow shocked. Sarah and Robyn make a surprised expression with their face and hands. Robyn: And they were all so surprised that nobody said anything for a very long time. The end. Description: Robyn slowly puts the book down on the table. Sarah: That was so much fun Robyn! That's one of my favourite stories and it's so great to learn the different parts of our body. I have a song that helps with that too. It's called heads and shoulders. Are you ready? Robyn: Yes! Let's do it! Description: Sarah and Robyn touch their head, shoulders, knees and toes when they sing about the corresponding body part. In the song, they also touch their eyes, ears, mouth and nose to match the words they are singing.
