Description: Focus on Linda and Jenny talking. Jenny: And I'm Ms Jenny. Linda: And we are part of the Logan City Council Libraries’ First 5 Forever team. We are going to start always with our Acknowledgement of Country. So Ms Jenny are you ready? Linda and Jenny: Here is the land Description: Linda and Jenny both move their hands in a flat circular motion. Linda and Jenny: and here is the sky Description: Linda and Jenny arch their hands above their head and move them down to their sides. Linda and Jenny: here are my all friends Description: Linda and Jenny move their right hand, palm up from their inside elbow out. Linda and Jenny: and here am I. Description: Linda and Jenny tap both their hands on their chest. Linda: Hey Ms Jenny, did you notice that we've got someone beside us here? Description: Linda looking at Jenny and patting the head of the large plush caterpillar. Jenny: I know he's a very friendly chap. Description: Jenny turning her head to look at the caterpillar. Linda: Do you know what he is? Description: Focus on Linda. Jenny: I think he might be a caterpillar. Description: Jenny holding up the caterpillar’s antennae. So let's have our story today 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar.’ Here we go. Description: Linda picks up book ready to read. Turning to the first page. Linda: In the light of the moon a little egg laid on a leaf. Can you find the egg Ms Jenny? Well done, good spotting Ms Jenny. Description: Opening the first page and a large green leaf pops up from the middle of the book that is illustrated like a branch of a tree and Jenny points out the small white egg on the leaf. Linda: On Sunday morning the warm sun came up and POP! out of the egg came a little, tiny and very hungry caterpillar. He started to look for some food. Description: Linda turning the page. The page has a pop-up orange and yellow sun in the middle and a small green caterpillar crawling along the brown dirt along the bottom of the page. Jenny points to the caterpillar. Jenny rubs her tummy. Linda: On Monday, he ate through one apple but he was still hungry. Description: Linda turns page of book. Pop-ups of one red apple, two green pears, three purple plums and four red strawberries. All the fruit have a hole in them. Jenny rubs her tummy. Linda: On Tuesday he ate through two pears. One, two. Goodness! Description: Jenny holds up two fingers and counts her fingers. Linda points to the two pears. Linda: On Wednesday he ate through three plums. Let's count them Ms Jenny. Description: Jenny holds up three fingers and counts her fingers. Linda and Jenny: One, two, three. Description: Linda points to the three plums and counts them. Jenny shows three fingers. Linda: And on Thursday he ate through four strawberries but he was still hungry. Description: Jenny holds up four fingers and rubs her tummy. Linda: One, two, three, four. Description: Close up of the book as Linda points and counts the four red strawberries. Linda: On Friday. Oh look! He ate through five oranges but he was still hungry. Description: Linda opens a flap in the book revealing five oranges. Each orange has a hole in it. Linda holds the book up for everyone to see. Jenny holds up five fingers and rubs her tummy. Jenny: My goodness! Linda: On Saturday, he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one pickle, one slice of swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake and one slice of watermelon. And that night he had. He doesn't look very well does he, girls and boys. Let's see. A tummy-ache! Description: Linda turns the page. Linda and Jenny hold the book between them revealing all the food the caterpillar ate on Saturday. Jenny points to each piece of food. A square of layered chocolate cake with a cherry on top, an ice-cream cone topped with pinkish ice-cream, a rectangle of cheese with holes in it, a salami sliced into three pieces, a blue and yellow lollipop on a stick, a wedge of pie with a golden crust filled with round red cherries, a small red sausage, a cupcake in a blue wrapper and a triangle of watermelon that has some black seeds. Linda: The next day was Sunday again, the caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf and after that he felt much better. Description: Linda turns the page and there are two pop-up green leaves, Jenny points to the leaf that the caterpillar ate leaving holes in it. The caterpillar is crawling along the stem of the leaf. Linda: Now he wasn't hungry anymore and he wasn't a little caterpillar anymore! He was… Would you like to open up Ms Jenny? A big fat caterpillar! Description: Linda opens a flap and Jenny points to the big green pop-up caterpillar with a red head. Linda: He built a small house called a cocoon around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks and then he nibbled a hole into the cocoon. Look at that Ms Jenny! Description: Linda opens another flap and points to the big brown pop-up cocoon. Jenny: It's a beautiful cocoon. Linda: Isn't it? That was his home for a long time and then, he was a beautiful butterfly. Description: Linda turns the page to a large pop-up butterfly. It has wings that flutter and is a rainbow of sparkly colours. Linda: There he goes and that is the end of our story. Did you enjoy that story Ms Jenny? Jenny: I did. Linda: Did you enjoy it boys and girls? Jenny: He was very hungry. Description: Linda places the book back onto the table.
