Languages Other Than English (LOTE)
Would you like to improve your English skills?
By becoming a member of Logan City Council Libraries you may borrow videos, CD-ROMs, cassettes and books to help you with English spelling, grammar, and pronunciation.
The Community Services Librarian is available to talk to members of your group about resources and services provided by Logan City Council Libraries, and can be contacted on (07) 3412 4147 or by sending an email to council@logan.qld.gov.au.
Books and other items
Logan City Council Libraries can provide books in 60 Languages Other Than English (LOTE) from Afrikaans to Welsh. The State Library of Queensland, through its Public Library Services, regularly supplies Logan City Council Libraries with items in requested languages.
Ask staff at your local library about languages already on the shelf or request a special delivery. Staff will be happy to help. A list of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) is available through the library.
Magazines and newspapers
Magazines and newspapers are also available in languages other than English. Listed below are the titles currently held.

Multicultural Bridge – State Library of Queensland’s gateway to a variety of information in community languages, including information on library services, searching the web in your own language and links to online newspapers and radio, community web sites and Queensland Government services.
Foreign Language News and Newspapers – Electronic journals, newspapers and magazines in a variety of languages are represented.
Gate2Home – This website has an online onscreen keyboard emulator, allowing computer users to view their language’s keyboard layout on-screen in a virtual semi-real keyboard, and to write/type/search the Internet in their own language.
Lerni.net – a multilingual learning resource for emerging communities.
Multicultural Affairs Queensland – MAQ manages a range of programs and policy initiatives aimed at strengthening the implementation of the Multicultural Queensland Policy across the Queensland Government and in the broader community.
MyLanguage.gov.au – A website containing links to information in many languages around the world.
Online WA Multicultural Communities Gateway – This website allows members of your community group access to information, chat sessions, community calendars and email, allowing the sharing of information and issues with other groups throughout Western Australia and around the world.
Refugees Online – Refugees Online is a project sponsored by the Brisbane City Council to assist people who have arrived in Australia as refugees to access the Internet. It also features links to useful resources in various languages.
Web Junction – WebJunction offers free online translation, where you can get a translation of a whole Webpage or just a few paragraphs of text by using Babel Fish, the free translation service from AltaVista. Web Junction also offers email translation, and you can compose emails in different languages by using LingoMail.
