Author visit - Markus Zusak

9 October 2008

Markus Zusak entertained patrons at the literary breakfast held on Saturday 6 September 2008, to help celebrate Adult Learners’ Week and the recent opening of the new Logan North Library. Markus spoke about the art of storytelling and how attention to detail lends authenticity to stories. He also touched on the highs and lows of writing The Book Thief, and the worldwide success that has followed its publication three years ago. Markus answered questions from audience members and signed copies of his books. He proved an entertaining and encouraging speaker.

After the breakfast Markus provided two writing workshops to assist budding authors in producing quality work. The workshops taught participants how to do the simple things well when it comes to writing and reworking stories. He explained that he believes that there isn’t any genius and not much talent, just the patience spent working. Markus said he enjoyed the day and appreciated how well he was received.
