Home Library Service

About the home library service

Logan City Council Libraries, through a network of volunteer community workers, provides library material to residents of Logan who are confined to home for a genuine reason. The loan limit can be adjusted to meet the needs of home library service borrowers and extensions on loan periods are available. Visits to deliver items are made at a day and time which suits the borrower and volunteer. Visits are usually made monthly.

Home library service borrowers may request particular items through volunteers and library staff, or alternatively by phoning (07) 3412 4147 or emailing libraries@logan.qld.gov.au. Borrowers can also make requests via the library catalogue on the Internet.

Logan City Council has a large collection of items for loan including:

  • Compact discs (audio books and music)
  • Fiction
  • Large type books
  • Material in languages other than English
  • Non-fiction
  • DVDs and videos
  •

The library produces a quarterly newsletter, On the Homefront, especially for home library service borrowers and volunteers. This newsletter contains information on new resources, recipes and articles contributed by readers.

Applying for the home library service

As a home library service recipient, library materials are selected based on preferences you have specified, and delivered to your home by a volunteer. If you would like to apply to receive this service please make an enquiry. Applicant acceptance is subject to eligibility requirements.

    Becoming a volunteer

Join this valuable community service by becoming a volunteer for the home library service. Reliable, tolerant and cheerful people with access to private transport are required. All prospective volunteers must be prepared to undergo a Police criminal history check, must hold a current drivers licence and carry vehicle insurance. If you are able to give two hours or more per month at a time that suits you (Monday to Saturday) please contact the Community Services Librarian on (07) 3412 4147, or via email.
