Coffee Corner at Logan West

22 July 2009

Eric and Marianne Fernance from Passion4Health

Stress is a part of our everyday lives. Some people feel that a little stress can be a great motivator but when it gets out of control, it can do serious damage to your mental and physical health.

Eric and Marianne Fernance from Passion4Health were the guest speakers for Logan West’s June Coffee Corner event.

They gave a very informative presentation on how to find easy, simple and healthy ways to deal with the stressors in your life – mainly through eating a healthy diet and engaging in regular physical activity.

Lynita Harbour was the lucky winner of the door prize book giveaway Don’t sweat the small stuff for women – simple and practical ways to do what matters most and find time for you by Kristine Carlson!

Are you spinning me a yarn … or are you telling me the truth?

22 July 2009

Logan West Library’s Coffee Corner was host to Leslie and Bev from Southside Spinners, Weavers and Dyers for the July Coffee Corner event. Leslie shared many interesting historical facts while Bev demonstrated this timeless art on her spinning wheel.

The spinning wheel proved to be fascinating for Chris and Merri who were very excited to be given the opportunity to have a go themselves.    Hand spun fibres including alpaca, angora and silk that have been naturally dyed.    Bev and Leslie with a traditional upright spinning wheel.

ESSENTIAL

Thylacine Man by Noel Tuckey

Noel Tuckey visits Logan West, Logan North and Logan Hyperdome Libraries talking about his exciting new book Thylacine Man.

Thylacine Man is a brilliant, fast action novel which explores the hidden world of the elusive Tasmanian tiger, presumed extinct since 1936.

Incredibly, new pictures are captured of this unique marsupial deep in the rainforest, and a doubting world is stunned by their release. Based on actual events, gripping battles erupt between conservationists desperately working to save the species, a government corrupted by multinational oil search barons, and the mysterious CEO of the Barrandelli Bio-Link Foundation.

Then a strange prehistoric animal is taken alive from the deep Pacific Ocean. A banquet of this new seafood poisons a group of Chinese political leaders, and a covert international hunt is organised to capture the last surviving tigers, in a desperate bid to save the dying politicians.

In a gripping twist, the world will wait and wonder if just two incredibly brave conservationists can save these Tasmanian tigers and somehow revive the species, or will an uncaring world destroy forever the rarest animal of them all?
