Sci-Fi and Fantasy Month 2010

16 September 2010

Another extremely successful ‘Sci-Fi and Fantasy’ August has wrapped up at Logan North Library. The ‘force’ was certainly with the many enthusiasts who attended the myriad of activities and workshops on offer over the month. Whether you entered the library via the Stargate or aboard the TARDIS, there was something on for everyone, from writing workshops, to lightsaber challenges, Rocketry sessions and craft activities.

Finale day was abuzz with the 1700+ people either participating in activities or enjoying an ‘out of this world’ atmosphere. Storm-troopers roamed the aisles, children were costumed as their favourite fantasy characters, and attendees were in awe of the realistic ghoulish and vampirish faces created by talented, professional
make-up artists.

Library staff were thrilled with the public response to their fourth annual event and plan to make Sci-Fi & Fantasy month August 2011 bigger and better than ever.

Twilight Competition

Chantelle Simon
‘Twilight has to be my favourite of the series simply because this is the book where I was introduced to a whole new world of make believe after long believing that make believe was for children. I now escape to this world often and am enveloped in this love story.’

    Author Visit with Noel Tuckey

    BOOKINGS
    ESSENTIAL

    Thylacine Man by Noel Tuckey

Noel Tuckey visits Logan West, Logan North and Logan Hyperdome Libraries talking about his exciting new book Thylacine Man.

Thylacine Man is a brilliant, fast action novel which explores the hidden world of the elusive Tasmanian tiger, presumed extinct since 1936.

Incredibly, new pictures are captured of this unique marsupial deep in the rainforest, and a doubting world is stunned by their release. Based on actual events, gripping battles erupt between conservationists desperately working to save the species, a government corrupted by multinational oil search barons, and the mysterious CEO of the Barrandelli Bio-Link Foundation.

Then a strange prehistoric animal is taken alive from the deep Pacific Ocean. A banquet of this new seafood poisons a group of Chinese political leaders, and a covert international hunt is organised to capture the last surviving tigers, in a desperate bid to save the dying politicians.

In a gripping twist, the world will wait and wonder if just two incredibly brave conservationists can save these Tasmanian tigers and somehow revive the species, or will an uncaring world destroy forever the rarest animal of them all?
